15 months ago Arlene was our Doula for the birth of my son Lukah. My God as a first time mom having a doula was something I felt like I really wanted but did not know what to expect. Now I cannot imagine giving birth without one. The nurses and my midwife were great but I was not their only patient and focus. Having a doula felt like the constant knowledgeable support with me. My husband was amazing but him as well as my mom were obviously more emotionally involved. Arlene was so kind and comforting she was able to be there to be focused on me solely. One clear moment of the day I will not forget with Arlene was due to several reasons after hours I ended up getting the epidural and after about the 2nd dose the button stopped releasing more and my nurse did not believe me so Arlene reassured me that we would watch the clock together and again the nurse did not believe me so Arlene stuck up for me and because of the confidence of her support, I felt empowered to ask for a new nurse. And I am so grateful I did. Arlene along with my midwife also helped me recognize when I was getting ready to push and reminded me not to use anymore of the epidural so I could feel each push like I wanted. This testimonial is a little all over the place but I truly am so grateful for Arlene’s presence in the room along which gave me so much reassurance.
