General Questions:

  • What is a doula and what services do you provide?
    • A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a person before, during, and after childbirth.
  • What is the cost of your services, and are they covered by insurance?
    • Right now I am only taking insurance clients. I am currently certified with the following insurance companies to cover doula services in California: Medi-Cal, Blue Shield, Blue Cross, Molina Healthcare and Community Health Network. I plan to expand coverage in the next year.
  • How many clients do you typically serve per month?
    • 3-5 clients per month.
  • What is your availability like?
    • I am generally available full time, however, it depends on how many clients I have at the time.

Prenatal Care:

  • Do you offer prenatal visits and education?
    • Absolutely! I will also attend prenatal doctor appointments and advocate for you if desired.
  • What kind of support do you provide during pregnancy?
    • I provide emotional support, education on childbirth and pregnancy, and practical advice to pregnant individuals, helping them navigate the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy with confidence and ease.
  • Can you help me create a birth plan?
    • Yes! I can also help with a postpartum care plan.

Labor and Delivery:

  • Will you be present during the entire labor and delivery process?
    • Yes.
  • What techniques do you use to help manage pain and discomfort during labor?
    • Body positioning, use of rebozo, breathing techniques, massage, aromatherapy, medicine ball, peanut ball, counter-pressure, heat and cold therapy.
  • How can a doula help my partner be more involved in the birth process?
    • By providing guidance and support, allowing them to focus on being present and offering comfort to their partner. Doulas can also educate partners on labor techniques, positioning, and breathing exercises, empowering them to actively participate in the birthing process. Additionally, doulas can help partners feel more confident and less overwhelmed by taking on tasks like timing contractions, taking notes, and advocating for their partner’s needs.

Postpartum Care:

  • Do you offer postpartum support, such as breastfeeding assistance and newborn care?
    • Yes!
  • How can a doula help with postpartum recovery?
    • They can help with breastfeeding, newborn care, and household chores, allowing new parents to rest and bond with their baby. Doulas can also offer guidance on postpartum recovery, such as perineal care, nutrition, and sleep. Additionally, they can provide emotional support, helping new parents navigate the challenges of parenthood and adjust to their new roles.
  • Can you help me adjust to motherhood and bond with my baby?
    • Absolutely! I can practical assistance such as helping with tasks like breastfeeding, diapering, and bathing, provide emotional support, and teach you various techniques such as skin-to-skin bonding methods.

    • Yes. I am certified in California.
  • Do you have experience working with Medi-Cal or other insurance providers in California?
    • Yes. Very familiar with a variety of insurance providers in California.
